Initially a Passive house will require further investment compared to a standard house, to ensure the house is built correctly in terms of air-tightness, thermal bridging and heat recovery. In the long term, a Passive house will require less energy to heat in order to have a comfortable warm house.

Combined with this one has to consider that nationally there is a huge campaign by government to encourage the move towards greener, cleaner homes and in the future those who have not built energy efficient houses will be penalized as Ireland must reduce their CO2 emissions.

From 2013 onwards all new homes will have to be carbon neutral and emit no harmful greenhouse gases. The plan by government is to change the building regulations so that “passive” becomes the norm in Irish society. Building to passive standard now will increase the value of your home for the future.
