Passive House Certification
The Passivhaus House Institute in Darmstad, Germany certifies Passive houses and also appoints external certifiers. PHB understand and know how to achieve the demands of building a Passive house. We have been trained in using PHPP, therefore we know where all the figures comes from and in turn we know where the mistakes can be made on the building of a Passive house too.
Throughout the building process, the institute is supplied with all relevant documentation in terms of the plans, list of construction materials, results of air tightness (which is carried out by an independent accessor to the European standards) and thermal bridge analysis of all connections in the house. Once the house is completed a member of the institute will carry out an on-site visit to confirm that all the work carried out complies with the Passive House criteria.
The process of certification begins at the initial design stage where all the details of the plans are entered into the PHPP software and are accessed. It is at this stage, adjustments will be made to various components until such time as the required standards for a Passive house are met.
During the building stage, quality workmanship is essential in order to follow the spec exactly. Only construction materials which perform to European standards can be used in the building of a Passive house.
